- 1. Port-forwarding
2. What's my IP?
3. Setting up the Server / Connecting
Step 1: Port forwarding
In this tutorial I will use the port 27015.
Feel free to use whatever port you like (port ranges from 1024 to 65535).
A useful site is the following:
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/
Select your router, the model number of the router and a random game.
On the bottom of the page it says to use the port XXXX, but instead just use your favourite port. In this tutorial I use the Port 27015.
Once that is done, everyone who has got your IP can connect to your server.
They can only join in the port you forwarded in this step.
Step 2: What's my IP?
Other people need your IP to connect to your Server.
Just go to http://www.whatsmyip.org/ and copy your IP. For example, my ip is 12.345.67.89
You need to send it to the one who's connecting and you also need to tell him your forwarded port.
Step 3.1: Creating a Server
Start up the Game.
If you did before, restart it.
On the main menu, click on LAN (or MULTIPLAYER)
If you're the one who forwarded ports, click on SERVER.
Set up your Server-preferences and write in the port you've forwarded. My Port: 27015

Click START
After you see the map from above, people can connect to your server.
Step 3.2: Connecting
Start up the Game.
On the main menu, click on LAN (or MULTIPLAYER).
You don't need to forward ports to join to servers. If you already forwarded your ports, it should also work fine

Write your friends IP in the IP field.
Write your friends forwarded Port in the PORT field.

Click JOIN
Have Fun!
