What is Evolve?

Evolve is a free VPN(Virtual Private Network) like Hamachi, that let you connect easily in a virtual LAN to play with your friends.

Why should I use it instead of Hamachi?

For one, it doesn't have those silly player limits that hamachi has. Any number of players can enter your network, so you don't need to create lots of rooms for more people, like hamachi.

Second thing, it has text chat and VoIP(voice over ip, basically voice chat), so you don't need to open any other applications to talk with your friends, like skype. For people with more "modest' computers, that's one less program that you have to open.

And third, it has a Friend List and Groups, so you can add people to play latter or chat, or you can enter/create a group to find more people who play and so on.

How to install it?

First, enter the site link that's on top of the post. Then, click on the red button "Start Playing with Evolve!", create an account, download it and login.

Now what?

Well, the first thing that you should probably do is to add some friends. You haven't done this to play with yourself, right? So open the friends window and add all of your friends, just like in the screenshot bellow.

Image

Now, you must create or enter a party to be able to play with them.

Creating a party:

On the friends window, click create party.

The first time you enter or create a party, this screen is gonna show:

Just click "Start Installation" and wait.

Done.

See, that wasn't so hard, was it? If you want to make your party private so only friends can connect to it, just click on the gear icon on the party window and put "private game".

Inviting people to your party:

There's two ways that you can invite a friend.

First one: Just click on the "Send Party Invite" on your party window and type the name of your friend. You can also create an URL link and post it online so people who aren't on your friend list can enter the party. Just copy the Recruit Link.
Image

Second onde: With your party window open, go to your friend list, click on your friend with the right button and select "Invite to Party". Easy as that.

Playing:

Make sure that everyone who's gonna play are on the same party and that they all have a green ball on the right of their nick and an IP bellow it. Like that:

Image

Now, someone must host the game(it doesn't need to be the same person who created the party) and all you have to do is to use the IP that's bellow his name.

Voice Chat:

There's two ways that you can use the Voice Chat. The "Press Button to Talk" way, like Teamspeaker and the "Always on" way, like Skype. To change it, go to Party/Preferences:
Image

Now all you need to do is to choose between the Always Transmit or the "Transmit only when the following PTT key is held". If you choose the second option, you can assign any key you want to be the one you use to talk.
Image

You can also disable your microphone and/or other people voices(only to you) by clicking those two buttons(first one so you can't hear other people, second one for microphone):

Groups:

If you wish, you can create or enter a Group too. A Group can be a clan, a regional group, a team, a general group, etc. To create a group, access https://www.evolvehq.com/groups , click "Start" and create it.

I've created two groups: a global one for anyone to enter and a brazilian one. They're both open, so anyone can enter them. Feel free to do so ;)

Global one: https://www.evolvehq.com/groups/attack- ... obal-group
Brazilian: https://www.evolvehq.com/groups/attack- ... game-grupo

Any questions, feel free to ask. Hope this tutorial helps :D

You're welcome.

I recommend using it specially because of the group thing. If more people join the group, it's gonna be easier to find who is online and willing to play and so on. And well, being able to create a party with a limitless number of players is better than creating lots of small parties in hamachi.

Anyway, if anyone finds something that's not clear enough, feel free to ask. I may have made some english mistakes as well, so feel free to correct me

Don't you have problem with lags when too many people is in a single room for example ?

If you use voice chat with the "always one" and lots of people, maybe. But in a room with lots of people, it would be better to everyone to use the "push to talk" or else it would be hard to understand who is talking to who anyway.

But if there's lot of people and you don't use the voice chat at all or only use it with the "push to talk" thing, no.

Evolve > Hamachi, 100% agreed. But still, not using Hamachi or Evolve is best. Gives best ping as well.
