My buddies and I try to start servers to play with eachother all of the time, and it never works. We try forwarding our ports, using Hamachi/Evolve, we try everything, and we pretty much have to rely on finding someone else hosting a server with 2 spots open (Which is virtually nonexistent 90% of the time) It could definitely stand to be a little simpler, or have an interface that shows a server list. I look for servers all day and maybe find one per day, which is frustrating.

Just a brief 2-point checklist.
(I don't use Evolve, have Mac)
Did you unblock them on Hamachi? Them for you?
How far are you apart? Super-close, close, somewhat distant, distant, super-far?

The people I've tried making servers with are all from the same town as me, sometimes they are in the room with me and we can't get it to work. Maybe we're doing something wrong, but I feel like it's harder than it should be. We had a match going one night, but we've tried several other times and never managed to get it going. Could just be that we aren't trying hard enough or incorrectly forwarding the port somehow, but I don't know. Also, about unblocking them on Hamachi, I'm not sure how I'd do that. I'm not terribly familiar with the program.

The block might be keeping them out.
Took me a while to realize.
In the toolbar, click LogMeIn Hamachi>Preferences>Security>Find group names and unblock.
Then from Preferences>Settings>Advanced Settings>Peer Connections>Traffic Filtering>Block Untrusted.
That's what I did.

I use Google Chrome. The person I was trying to connect to uses Firefox

I don't think that's the problem. We're able to play in other people's servers together, and as far as he knows he doesn't have any firewalls set up.
