Reel Technique - Yo-Yo

Postby Xedma » Sun Jan 26, 2014 8:33 am

Note: you cannot Yo-Yo without Smooth Scrolling.

Yo-Yo is the ultimate reeling technique. It is designed to help you accelerate to incredible speeds by reeling in and out while rotating around your target. It's secondary purpose is to effectively reel around obstacles to avoid crashing. When used in combination with Correctional Hooking (in development), this technique can allow you to consistently deal massive damage to titans. Some people have gotten over 6000 damage using this technique!

Yo-Yo reels in and out multiple times to accelerate you (just like a yo-yo). This technique was designed to use the Overdrive, so please review that tutorial for hook placement.

To Yo-Yo:

1. Place a hook directly on the nape and keep it anchored.
2. Reel in once and then unreel enough that you're safe from the titan's attacks.
3. Look and Gas in the direction you are moving. (Forward if you are looking where you're unreeling towards, left/right if you are rotating and lock-ed on to the titan.)
3.1 (TIP!) Unreeling a lot helps to level a diagonal rotation rotation. Practice!
3.2 (Easy Mode) lock-on and just gas to the side you're moving.
3.3 (optional) Attack each time you reel in. It helps you accelerate faster.
4. Use correctional hooking to adjust yourself as necessary.
5. Repeat steps 2-4 until satisfied or in danger of crashing.
6. Position yourself in front of the titan and have a good amount of distance.
7. Reel in hard and strike! (You should overdrive)
7.1 (TIP!) Try to attack right before you get to the nape. Don't be afraid to spam attack.

This is an advanced reeling technique which requires Smooth Scrolling (or rebind) to work. There are multiple stages to learning this technique, each being harder to master than the last.
Stage 1. Yo-Yo in an open field. No crashing danger.

Stage 2. Yo-Yo in a narrow field. Minimal Crashing danger.

Stage 3. Yo-Yo in the woods. Some crashing danger.

Stage 4. Boss and PvP bull-riding. Maximum crashing danger.

UNTIL A SEPARATE THREAD FOR CORRECTIONAL HOOKING IS MADE:
Correctional hooking is a technique that is designed to assist Yo-Yo. This concept comes from the fact that while one wire is always hooked to your target, the other is free to help you steady yourself, change direction, and avoid crashing more effectively than with reeling alone:
By shooting a hook up into a tree, you add support to your rotation leveling you out.
By shooting a hook down, you can stop yourself from rotating vertically and lead back to a horizontal rotation.
By shooting a hook level, you can alter your rotational velocity and change directions. Also adds acceleration!
The basic idea here is to use your second wire to keep you from crashing and having let go of your first wire. If you do crash, then as long as your first wire stays hooked, correctional hooking can get your Yo-Yo started again. Advanced correctional hooking can even help accelerate you through the forest.

You probably can't call it a technique, but I've used reel out to not crash into a titan's neck when doing treequators or whatever you guys call them.
