Double Respawn Glitch: Your thoughts

Postby BSC » Wed May 21, 2014 10:37 am

With the recent 05182014 update, there has been a 'glitch' or 'exploit' that involved a player capable of duplicating themself in the Forest III map. Most people accidentally stumble upon it due to trying out the 'T' repick method in multiplayer and would acquire a clone that mimics the same action as your real character. Of course, now that the ability to duplicate clones is possible, the method to do so has also been discovered. Now, some people consider this some kind of hacking or something along those lines and I'm interested in hearing your thoughts about this subject. Please answer the following questions below:

1. Have you ever acquired a clone, whether with intention or not do so?
2. Have you witnessed anybody playing with a clone?
3. Do you know the method (yes/no)?
4. Do you think it is cheating?
5. If you have played clones, describe your experience.
6. Do you think it should be removed immediately or should it be honoured* (explained below)?

*The use of clones, from my experience, is hilariously fun and changes up the gameplay itself. I've introduced it to a couple of friends and they've all said similar things so to help answer 6, I've compiled a list of pros and cons for using clones. Can be removed by leaving game.

- Can control another character and use as an extension of your actual character to kill titans.
- Guarantees fun while trying to keep yourself and the clone alive.
- Can be used to save yourself when grabbed.
- Adds another dimension to your slash when trying to kill a titan when hooking from different perspectives.

- The death of one of your characters will have you be considered dead for that round even if one of your characters are alive.
- Very easy to die to crawler and mass groups of titans.
- Cannot see the gas and blade of your other character and hence can run out of gas etc.
- Changing camera to the other character generally takes a long time and can cause the death of the other very quickly in dangerous situations.
- A bugged non-moving clone is spawned on your 'T' location (I think) which is immortal (I think) and acts as a permanent bait, hence ruining gameplay. Everytime the double respawn method is used, another non-moving clone is spawned.
- Only skilled players can utilise the clone effectively, hence newer players are incapable of using without gaining a horrible disadvantage.

2.Nope, cause I don't play on multiplayer servers :P
4.Nah, not cheating, just a bug
5.Never played with clones, sooo...
6.I guess it should be removed. A bug's a bug, after all, and this one can be exploited, even if it does have downsides :|

  1. Made a clone before, with the intention to see how it felt like after reading how to do it
  2. Yea, it was pretty cool :P
  3. Yea, read it xD
  4. Don't think so, since you can't remotely control the character to go off in different directions to kill more titans. And if one gets killed, everyone dies. The risk is quite high as what you mentioned
  5. The feeling was awesome lol, felt like I had an escort to protect throughout the game, the double equators I did when trying to kill titans, looks totally cool
  6. I don't think it should be removed, since it doesn't really give the player that much of an advantage, as he has to constantly worry about not getting the clones and the original killed. With a slight mistake, 1 may end up crashing in a tree, and when trying to recover it, will make yourself vulnerable to attacks. As you mentioned, it provides a different gameplay experience, which I'm sure all of us need it at this point

1. No
2. No
3. Prior to seeing this post, no
4. Just a bug
5. ...
6. On the account of it being a (noticeable) bug, I think it should be removed.

I never tried it, but it sounds like fun. I don't think it should be removed, but maybe put a limit to it.

It's a bug and it should be removed.
That's all there is to it, no point in being in GD.
