Re: Suggestions for the forum

I'd like to apply with this suggestion (messed with forums' layout codes a lil bit, took me a few min);

[spoiler][img]http://imageshack.us/a/img27/1447/ly38.png[/img][/spoiler]

/* PS:Hmm.. Many of the codes seem to be unavailable now. Even "quote". Just realized ^^ */

I personally dislike subforums as thinking that it limits the usage of those forums and prevents users to use them as intended. I thought "why not making proper forum areas for each specific forum groups"? =)

I hope that this suggestion would be somehow helpful and constructive for improving the forums!

I'll see what I can do about it when I have more time, as I'm running low as of right now.

Alright, I will put this into plan when I can sometime.
However, if a FAQ section exists, as well as a Troubleshooting (which I presume is where to ask questions), then why have a help section? Tutorials might be fine, but why more help? Also, Tutorials would go in Support.
Also, why not just have the FAQ as a stickied thread? In addition, I would rather call the Troubleshooting area just "Help Section".

New Player Discussion seems unneeded. I can have a sticky in off-topic for intros.
Also, why is Forum Suggestions in the game area? =o
Having both an archive and graveyard would be a pain in the a** to manage to organize and move threads into both.
Also, if those existed, it would need to be moderated by staff only, to avoid problems.

FAQ/Troubleshooting, look to first paragraph.
Also, Bugs would be better under game.

I would move the MP branch above Support, to keep game stuff together.
As for the off-topic stuff, I would have them all appear like that, but actually be subforums of the main off-topic forum. They would still all appear, but if one clicked there, they would be redirected to the section, which is in truth, located in the off-topic forum. The list wouldn't appear under Off-Topic General Discussion. O-T GD would still have its own posts, just those subforums there, but also in the main index. I don't know if I can do this, but I'll see if I can later.

Just my thoughts on this. Otherwise, all good.

As said, I made it up in a few min. All the ordinary forums generally seen all other forums around the internet are put. It is not like you have to put all or none of them. :)

It was generally a suggestion based on the design of the forums as well as to give some ideas what kind of forums can be made for what kind of interests/needs.

If some of them is not needed, just ignore them :p

There is a FAQ on the top right, but i'm not sure if that can be changed.

Code for spoiler boxes?

Code: Select all
//Make sure to add it to the array first,
<input type="button" class="button2" name="addbbcode32" value="spoiler" onclick="bbstyle(32)" title="Hides the text between the tags, requiring it to be selected to be visible. Do not use coloured BBCode within your spoiler.">

<b onclick="javascript: var t=this.parentNode.getElementsByTagName('div')[0];t.style.display=(t.style.display=='none')?'inline':'none';">Spoiler (click to show/hide)</b>
Do I even English sometimes?

I've had already suggested that before, not sure if it will happen. The only thing I know that it would be a good addition for some people in the forums =)

About the new rule posts, I think it could be better.

Let me just find a post from another page that works a similar system....

Other forum I'm in wrote:New users' posts undergo an approval process, meaning they won't show up right away. Don't worry though, once you gain enough posts you can post freely without restrictions! Just be patient, and don't re-post messages! You also won't be able to send private messages during this time; just be patient and send your messages once you've had enough posts approved.

Keep it constructive! The forums are a place for ideas and discussion; personal attacks ("flaming"), or generally inappropriate content is not constructive!

Keep it on topic! The discussion and creative areas are for on-topic posts only. We don't mind a brief aside or indirectly related comment, but if you want to have a silly conversation then create a new topic in the general forum or use private messages please! This rule applies to images as well, so please don't disrupt topics with lolcats or whatever the current fads are :P

If a Moderator weighs in on a dispute in the forums, then treat their decision as law. If you don't like a decision, then PM the team member, or myself, for clarification.

I think it's a bit too harsh to ban members trying to raise their post limit. Just make a rule that dictates they have to post constructive stuff, avoid one liners, do not just post single words or smileys, and anyone not following that rule will have their post deleted. If they don't catch the hint, and it keeps happening multiple times, a PM warning. If at that point they ignore the mod, then start doing weekly bans. This is just what other forums do, it's not as harsh XD

Just a few rules I found, that forums also has a few community sticky posts. For example, there is a "Thread of status and other such things!" I made this one for them, it's basically a thread so people can mass tell many guilds (or roleplays) at once that they will be gone, or have returned, etc.
There is also a round table which we already have (it's this thread), but I think instead of making an entirely new section for it, just slap it stickied in the staff announcements subtopic.
Also! A roleplay section maybe? I know that on every forum I've been on, that section contains at least 50% of the posts, and it gets large. There is usually a "Lock at 50 posts and make a new thread" rule. Otherwise it gets laggy. Roleplay would be nice to make colab fanfics, even using the game to help write it. I can elaborate on that later, but for now this post reflects my opinion on the new post rules, and a different spot for this thread.
