really? I thought equator cut was when you started from the front and in 1 motion made it to the neck like in the sparrow cut.

Look:
Sparrow/Full cut/U-Turn/etc: You go in a u-turn around it, the nape being at the center of the "u".
Equator: One additional spin, so it's like U, but with a loop around the center.

Actually the equator doesn't really go 360 degree... It usually goes a U-turn.
Equator cut is invented from Sparrow Strike. Their difference are:
Sparrow Strike: Gas all the way, used 2 ropes.
Equator cut: Gas on timing, used 1 rope (but looks like many people used 2 ropes as well)
In a sense, Sparrow Strike is an equator cut as well.
Definition of equator cut from the tieba.
赤道斩:由7.0版本以后的巨猎衍生出来的一种新式杀法,类似于绕肩杀,单绳锁定巨人后圆周飞行绕到后颈击杀,然后再利用惯性回到原点,形成一种圆周的喷气路线.
Equator Cut: A killing technique invented in 7.0, similar to shoulder bypass, used 1 rope at the titan where you perform a circular motion to attack the back of titan, and used the momentum to goes back to the original position, just like an equator.
Shoulder bypass is a common technique where you swing around the titan from the front, and stop at the nape of the titan to attack, in case you all don't understand.
